Tips to reduce internet bill

Want to reduce your current internet bill? Here are some valuable tips:

1. Analyse your data requirements

Analyse your current internet plan. Check how much data you need and also go through the speed, bandwidth, and other requirements. Now, explore the other ISPs and their plans. By doing some research, you might get some better offers and deals.

Also, analyse how many devices at your home require internet. You can turn off some devices and curtail your internet needs. It might help you avail a limited data plan at a lesser rate.

2. Buy a router rather than renting

Renting a router will increase your internet bill every month. This is because the monthly broadband rental will contain the additional rent of the router. Instead, you can buy the router directly from your ISP. It will be your one-time investment and will prevent additional monthly interest costs. However, you must check if the modem and router you buy is compatible with the internet connection provided by your ISP or not. Also, ensure that you get a durable modem and router so that you do not have to invest in them again shortly.

If you switch to ACT Fibernet, there is no need to buy or rent a router as a free router is provided with most broadband plans.

3. Use limited internet plans

Unlimited broadband plans are costlier than limited plans. So, it is always better to cut down your internet usage and buy a limited data plan. For instance, you can avoid downloading HD movies, games, and videos from the internet. Instead, you can watch them online and stream music online. This will reduce some of your internet needs.

Turn off the automatic updates on your tablets, smartphones, and other WiFi-enabled devices. It will save much of your data. Turn off the push notifications as it will consume additional data which will eventually force you to opt for a higher data plan.

Whenever it is possible, use WiFi instead of connecting your internet devices directly with the ethernet cable. It will reduce your data wastage and help you save data for your other internet requirements.

4. Choose a slower internet

High-speed internet plans are usually offered at higher rates. So, when you go through the monthly broadband rentals, choose the ones that offer a lower internet speed.

Regular work like browsing the internet, listening to online music, and checking emails does not need high-speed internet. Also, if you are into online games and live streaming, you may choose a high-speed broadband plan. Still, plans that offer up to 300 Mbps speed can meet your data-intensive needs. So, there is no need to go for plans that offer up to 1 Gbps speed.

For regular internet needs, speeds up to 50 or 100 Mbps will prove to be more than enough. So, opting for the fastest plan offered by your ISP just because it is available is not required.

5. Explore the costs of different types of internet

Different types of internet can have different costs. Choose the ones that are not only affordable but also come with additional benefits.

For instance, ACT Fibernet offers access to OTT platforms and live TV channels. So, subscribing to its broadband plans can save your overall costs associated with your entertainment requirements.

Also, check the taxes and service fees associated with different ISPs and internet types. ACT Fibernet offers free installation services. So, you do not have to spend extra for setting up your internet.

6. Negotiate with your ISP

You can always negotiate the broadband rental and other charges associated with the internet services with your ISP. You can also ask them about the latest offers and promotions that apply to regular users.

Some ISPs offer discounts if you subscribe to their long-term plans. So, you can reduce some of your monthly internet bills by subscribing to such long-term plans.

Don’t be rude or too demanding when you are negotiating the rates with your ISP. You must explain your situation to them in a polite way. If the ISP does not oblige to your demands, you can always switch to another service provider.

You can also disclose the internet offers provided by other ISPs. This might increase your chance of landing a plan at a much lesser cost.

7. Don’t use unnecessary add-ons

Many ISPs offer additional services along with their internet services. It could be an OTT subscription, TV service, or any other service. You must only get the add-on services that you really need. Opting for unnecessary add-ons will only increase your broadband rental and monthly internet bill.

With that being said, some ISPs offer discounts on availing of their bundled-up services. It means that they will offer the internet at a much lesser cost if you avail their phone or cable TV services. You must always look for such discounts and offers to lower your monthly broadband rental.
