A DDoS attack used to mean one thing: a data centre or a large enterprise going dark for a few hours. That scenario has changed due to today’s fast-paced tech integration into almost every business. Today, the organisations absorbing the sharpest rise in these attacks are the ones running exam portals, resident WiFi and shared meeting rooms, environments where connectivity is not a support function but is equal to the product or service itself. Education, coliving and coworking operators are now attractive targets precisely because their entire user experience and revenue depend on the enterprise network being always active.

Why DDoS Attacks are Becoming Vertical-Specific

Attackers follow where dependency is highest and defences are thinnest. Institutions and shared-space operators run dense, critically active networks serving hundreds of simultaneous users on limited IT budgets. Additionally, most of these institutions and businesses still rely on fragmented, reactive security stacks that respond only after disruption has already reached users. That weak point between exposure and preparedness is what these vertical-specific DDoS campaigns exploit.

Section 1: Education Sector

Indian educational institutions faced an average of 7,095 cyberattacks per organisation every week, placing the sector above government bodies and consumer goods companies combined. Attacks typically target exam portals during assessment windows, learning management systems and fee-payment gateways, and campuses remain vulnerable because cybersecurity is still treated as discretionary spend against classroom and lab budgets. The fallout extends beyond downtime: disrupted exams, delayed assessments and compromised trust with parents and regulators.

What institutions need now is connectivity that includes protection by default, and ACT Enterprise solutions like Managed Smart WiFi with advanced security protection and Secured Internet Leased Line (with integrated firewall) gives campuses always-available, threat-monitored bandwidth built for the capacities of educational institutions of various sizes.

Section 2: Coliving Spaces

India's organised coliving sector is scaling fast, with beds in the pipeline projected to nearly triple by 2030, according to Colliers, and every new property adds another shared network carrying resident logins, payments and building access systems. Operators are increasingly vulnerable because one property's network often supports hundreds of residents on a single connection with no segmentation between guest and operational traffic. When that connection is disrupted, it affects rent payments, door access and daily life at once, damaging retention in a business built on trust and convenience.

What coliving infrastructure requires is connectivity that isolates and protects resident traffic automatically, which is where ACT Enterprise's Managed Smart SD-WAN and Secured Internet Leased Line combination keeps operations running even under attack.

Section 3: Coworking Spaces

Coworking has become core business infrastructure in India, with the market projected to grow from USD 3.98 billion in 2025 to USD 8.7 billion by 2031, and 73 percent of occupiers now citing hybrid work as their reason for choosing flexible space. That growth is what makes coworking hubs attractive targets for cybersecurity attacks: dozens of businesses, including BFSI and IT tenants handling sensitive data, share the same underlying network. A single attack does not just take down one tenant; it disrupts every business operating from that address simultaneously.

Coworking operators need a network provider that can guarantee uptime as a service-level commitment, and ACT Enterprise's Managed Smart SD-WAN network delivers that resilience across every seat in the building.

Why Built-In Managed Security is Replacing Reactive Security Models

Not having network security integrated into the connectivity layer leaves a security detection gap that vertical-specific attackers are designed to exploit. Built-in managed security closes that gap by monitoring, absorbing and mitigating threats at the network layer itself, before they ever reach a student, resident or tenant. This is the model organisations across education, coliving and coworking are now expected to have in place, not as a differentiator but as a baseline requirement for doing business responsibly.

Growing organisations no longer have the luxury of choosing between performance and protection, they need both from the same provider. ACT Enterprise's built-in managed security approach helps education, coliving and coworking operators stay resilient and always connected without adding operational complexity.
