Today, you can practically see smartphones in every hand, regardless of age, job profile, or standard of living. These have become a basic necessity of modern times. We use smartphones for a variety of purposes, and accessing the internet remains at the top of the list.

But isn't it frustrating when you want to reach someplace, and you use maps on your phone, but your internet is acting up? Or when you are trying to make a UPI payment, but your internet servers are down? So, let us dive into getting to know all about improving high speed internet on mobile phones.

Understanding the Current Internet Speed of the Mobile

Who wouldn’t be happy to have access to fast internet speeds when watching a movie online and even sending an email? In a concise explanation, Internet speed refers to the amount of time taken to send data and receive it back in turn through a device referred to as a router. So, when people talk about internet speed, they are always referring to the amount of data that can be transferred per unit of time. The most commonly used reference point for defining internet speed is Mbps (Megabits per second).

Similarly, the term "bandwidth" is used to denote "how much" information is downloaded or uploaded every second and is also measured in Mbps. The wider the bandwidth, the more the information that could be downloaded or uploaded.

In other words, bandwidth refers to the amount of data that flows across a network, whereas speed measures how fast the data can flow across the network. Generally, a speed of more than 25 Mbps is considered to be the best internet speed for mobile. You can check current internet speed through an online internet speed test.

Factors Affecting Mobile Internet Speed

The high speed internet on mobile phones depends on many factors, some of which can be controlled by gaining a basic understanding. These factors are:

1. Physical Barriers: The internet in mobile phones is of the wireless kind, so it can easily get obstructed by buildings and objects.

2. Signal Strength: As mentioned above, mobile phones access the internet with the help of radio waves. Thus, signal strength is a key factor in determining the speed of the connection. While cities get good network coverage, rural areas might have trouble accessing high speed internet.

3. Network Traffic: Just like road traffic, high network traffic prevents users from enjoying fast-speed internet. During the day, when the volume of data downloads and uploads is high, the internet speed can be compromised, but at night, the speed can be comparatively better.

4. Provider Imposed Limits: Your Internet Service Provider may also impose threshold limits based on your data plans or other criteria.

5. Band Frequency: Measured in MegaHertz, higher band frequencies offer better speeds by carrying more data. However, since higher band frequencies have shorter wavelengths, they are unsuitable for long-distance transmissions.

Tips to Improve Mobile Internet Speed

After learning all about the factors that affect the internet speed in mobiles, let us know more about the ways to improve internet speed in mobile phones:

1. Checking your configuration: Checking your phone's configuration is one of the easiest ways to ensure high-speed internet. You can restart your phone and check whether there is a usage limit on your device. If you are in a congested place, then you can move into an open space; using a VPN also limits the internet speed, so you can check whether your VPN is turned on. Sometimes, the apps running in the background also consume data, and this compromises the internet speed; you can close the apps that you are not using.

2. Clearing the phone's cache memory: Cache memory is a temporary memory where frequently used instructions are stored to ensure faster processing. This could fill up your mobile and slow it down. In order to get fast internet speed mobile, you need to clear the cache memory of your phone. You can generally find this option in the settings.

3. Uninstalling Apps: There are certain apps that perpetually keep running in the background as soon as you switch your mobile phone on. These keep on using the available bandwidth, which slows down the speed of the internet in your phone. Thus, you can uninstall the apps that you do not use. You can also limit the data usage in specific apps from your phone settings.

4. Using a different browser: Some browsers work better on certain phones. If your internet is acting up, you can look for an alternative browser and stick with the fastest one.

5. Browser Text Mode: This is a feature that is available in your browser for the times when your surfing doesn't require you to look at the pictures. Texts load faster than pictures or videos and enable the user to enjoy the internet at a faster speed.

6. Turning off auto-updates for your apps: Updating the apps also requires the internet and consumes the bandwidth. You can turn off auto updates in your apps for fast internet speed and only update the apps as and when required.

7. Pop-Up Ads: You might have noticed that while surfing the internet, certain ads keep popping up on your phone screen. These take up the bandwidth and slow down your internet speed. In order to prevent you from effectively using the internet, you can avoid these ads by installing an ad blocker that is available online.
